Extended Session / Children’s Church

What is Extended Session? – Extended Session is church for children. (many churches call it Children’s Church) We are in our 30th year now and do many different things. Each week we start with the Pledge of Allegiance to the American Flag, Christian Flag and the Bible. We have refreshments during Bible story time, a craft time and singing. The children will have several performances during the year. Every child is welcome to come learn with us. There is no age limit. We have Extended Session during all worship services located in the white brick building next to the chapel. Come join us for some good learning fun. We even pick the children up from the services.

Sunday School

Sunday School provides an opportunity for persons to delve deeper into God’s word, the Bible, in an age- appropriate setting. It also gives persons an opportunity to belong to a small group, where they can get to know each other better and provide support, love and care for one another. Here, at Lewis Memorial, there are classes for all ages.  We conveniently have two Sunday School hours; 9 – 9:45 am and 10 – 10:45 am.  The “Second Hour” Sunday School is a one room class for K through 5th grade.

(Sunday and Wednesday Evening activities follow the Columbia County School Calendar for holidays)

Sunday Evening Studies

252 Basics | 5:00 pm – 7:00 pm | K-5th grades

What does 252 represent?  It’s not our street address, nor the number of questions a 2nd grader can ask in 20 minutes. Instead, everything we teach in 252 Basics is based on one of three basic, but powerful, truths modeled by Jesus in Luke 2:52.

  • I need to make the wise choice.
  • I can trust God no matter what.
  • I should treat others the way I want to be treated.

Children’s Choir | 6:00 pm | (252 Basics will also participate in Choir as part of their activities.)

Wednesday Evening Studies

Bible Black Belt | 7:00 pm – 8:15 pm | K-5th grades

“Scripture with a kick!” Recent studies reveal that few adults have a proficient knowledge of the Bible. This curriculum helps familiarize children with the Bible, giving them a solid biblical foundation for a lifetime of faith.

Standards Of Excellence Retreats

The administrative board of Lewis Memorial UMC has adopted learning goals for Christian Formation and Education for each grade level. Short retreats have been developed for grade levels K – 5. These retreats are a great aid to help children achieve these goals. In addition, Bibles are presented to children at age 3 and again when they enter the 3rd grade. At Lewis we give children every opportunity to learn, grow, and become Disciples of Christ Jesus.
